Transition from fast songs to slower songs.
Underscores come in handy as you transition
from fast songs in your praise set to slower
songs. I usually have 2-3 fast praise songs
followed by 1-2 slower songs in my praise
sets.
Let's say you wanted your praise set to have
these 3 songs:
Let Everything That Has Breath - E major
Open the Eyes of My Heart - E major
prayer / Scripture reading - download any
underscore that goes from E to C.
Holy, Holy, Holy - C major
After Open the Eyes of My Heart is a good spot for a short prayer or Scripture
reading.
For a key change and background music, go
to any underscore (underscore 6 would be good for Open the Eyes of My Heart) and click "E," then "C"
and download a one-page underscore. Print
it and have your keyboardist put it to the
side of their music where they can refer
to it for the transition.

Listen
to the demo MP3s and MIDIs to
get a feel
for playing underscores - they
shouldn't
be loud, but soft and tender.
Take your time.
Play interactively.
Underscores are interactive -
they can be
extended by repeating sections
if the prayer
or Scripture reading is longer.
Change octaves
during repeats, if appropriate,
for even
more variety.
Dovetail songs with the underscore.
As your praise band lands on the final chord
of Open the Eyes of My Heart, pause a second and start playing the key
change as the sound is still reverberating.
Instead of playing the final measure of the
underscore, start the intro to Holy Holy Holy.
Finish your praise set with an underscore.
If you want to conclude your
praise set with
a prayer, download an underscore
in the key
of the final song.
Transition from the praise set to an offertory
special.
Use an underscore to transition from the
last song of your praise set into an offertory
solo or instrumental.
